CAMP RED BIRD

The Austin Center for Grief & Loss is hosting a week long summer camp in Austin, Camp Red Bird, which is a bereavement summer day camp for children ages 6-9 and teens ages 10-13 that have experienced the death of a parent, sibling, or primary caregiver.

Camp Red Bird creates an environment where kids and teens can laugh, cry, play, create, remember the person who died, learn that it is okay to grieve, and to understand that they are not alone.  It is a space where they can feel ‘normal’, because everyone there has been through something similar and understands what it’s like to lose someone important to them.

Camp Red Bird engages children and teens in therapeutic activities that incorporate art, crafts, nature-based experiences, and movement to help process feelings of grief.  Children who attend camp learn to develop healthy coping skills in a safe and supportive environment.
